Geography
The beans of our Costa Rica Tarrazu hail from Costa Rica’s Tarrazu region, which is located in the southern pacific area south of its capital, San Jose. The combination of Costa Rica’s rich volcanic soil, cool and moist climate, and consistent seasonal changes work symbiotically to make this South American country one of the world’s best coffee growing regions. Its high elevations also allow for better drainage, which reduces the amount of water in the coffee fruit and creates a more significant flavor concentration. Tarrazu is celebrated for its rich volcanic soils in the highest altitudes of the country and produces nearly 35 percent of the country’s coffee.
Flavor
Tarrazu coffee is considered by many to be an extremely well-rounded coffee, with its sweet aroma, aromatic complexity, pleasant acidity and crisp, clean aftertaste with rich chocolate and nutty undertones. The region’s ideal growing conditions typically produce more naturally abundant flavors than other gourmet coffees. The coffee plant cherries are harvested at just the right time to provide optimal flavor.
Our Costa Rica Tarrazu is a deliciously smooth and balanced coffee that yields a silky sensation with a medium to full body. This delightful roast has noticeable notes of black cherry, molasses and honey with a clean, sweet finish.
